Character Info
◎ Character's Name: Ema Skye
◎ Character's Canon: Ace Attorney
◎ Character's Age: 16
◎ Canon Point: Ace Attorney 1: Post Rise from the Ashes
◎ Background/History: Wiki here!
◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? No. And little common sense
◎ Personality:
Ema Skye is, at this canonpoint, an upbeat and energetic young woman with a reasonably cool head on her shoulders and a serious ambitious streak. Her personality changes dramatically as she gets older, but if I mention any of those details at all it will only be to highlight a specific point or two.
The core of Ema’s personality at sixteen is her enthusiasm. Nothing ever seems to keep her down for long, and she gives everything she’s got to whatever it is she’s doing. She totally embraces whatever it is she’s doing, and gets herself into it. This is primarily shown through her interest in Forensic Science, which she claims is “My Life” in dramatic fashion. It’s also shown in how she interacts with Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth, practically flinging herself into the legal world to learn as much as she can. She hangs off of both the Defense and the Prosecution’s every word, very often scribbling down notes of her own. This enthusiasm and these notes weren’t always useful , as in her furor she would often take down everything and not just the important details.
Ema’s interest in science and investigation is a noteworthy trait, but the root cause of this is something even more central to Ema’s personality: Family. Lana Skye, her elder sister, raised Ema after both of their parents were killed in a car crash, and as a result of this the younger Skye grew to idolize her. Lana was a skilled and noteworthy investigator (and later Chief Prosecutor), and this influence is what drew Ema into her interest in police investigation and set her on her way. It was through Lana that Ema became aware of two other important people in her life (Miles Edgeworth and Phoenix Wright), and it was because of Lana that many of the formative events of Ema’s life even occurred. Without Lana, Ema likely would’ve focused on something else instead of scientific investigation but her almost hero worship of her elder sister clearly has a strong influence on her character.
It’s because of Lana that Ema even enters into the series, after all, as she earnestly drags attorney Phoenix Wright into a case to prove her sister innocent. This, of course, is completely in defiance of Lana’s wishes, and points to Ema as being a fairly headstrong individual. She wants something, and she’s having none of Lana’s excuses, prodding Wright a little bit to get a committal answer out of him as well.
The next thing on the list is Ema’s confidence in herself, her abilities, and in science. She’s definitely got it in her head that she can and will become a forensic investigator as soon as she finishes high school and she certainly carries herself with all the appropriate ambition. She’s so confident, in fact, that she comes off as a little bit of a know-it-all. And about forensics, when around the uninitiated (like Phoenix) she’s a little bit justified. Ema, especially for someone her age, is quite sharp. She helps Phoenix come up with ideas when he’s stumped and points out new angles to investigate things “scientifically, of course,” using her analytical skills. She’s good at thinking outside the box, she’s good about taking initiative, and she’s excellent at making connections between bits of evidence.
Now, that isn’t to say she’s the smartest person in the room. Ema knows a lot about forensic sciences and is very intelligent, competent, and capable as an assistant and forensics specialist, but she is still a high schooler. Ema’s educational interests are so narrow, in fact, that she seems to get things a little jumbled at times (such as claiming that George Washington was the first King of America), or making statements that seem to lack any real sense behind them. She’s also prone to stating the obvious, or jumping to strange and erroneous conclusions a bit like Phoenix’s other assistant Maya Fey.
When it comes to dealing with stress and bad situations, such as when she witnessed a struggle between the serial killer Joe Darke and Prosecutor Neil Marshall, Ema is seemingly prone to action. She attempts to help Neil and while she passes out and blocks out a lot of the memories due to shock and trauma, she still acted. It’s similar to how she dealt with her sister’s trial, refusing to back down and give up despite her sister’s stubborn refusal to accept help. Ema’s not someone who wants to sit on the sidelines, basically, and she earnestly and eagerly wants to do her part. Though she doesn't like horror films of any sort, and this may be attributed to the Joe Darke encounter.
Now to address obsession. Ema firmly believes that any and all crimes can be completely solved by proper application of scientific technique. This isn't necessarily untrue, but the level of Ema's devotion to science is (like all things Ace Attorney) a little extreme. 'The Power of Science is My Life' is a somewhat ludicrous statement, after all, but that doesn't stop Ema from spouting it out. She's prone to flights of scientific whimsy, rambling on about this, that, and the other without much regard for the fact that most people don't really understand how certain chemicals react to other chemicals. Or care.
Ema is also somewhat naive. She's still young enough that she doesn't completely understand how the real world works, and while she's been through quite a lot (like witnessing a serial killer in action), she's still only sixteen and has a rose-tinted view of the world. It's seemingly difficult for her to believe that Damon Gant, at least at first, is a ruthless murderer and it's even less possible for her to believe that Lana Skye could do any wrong whatsoever. The same high opinion seems to extend to Jake Marshall and Miles Edgeworth, both of whom have less than savory reputations in the public eye for one reason or another. She's just someone that tries to see the best in people, despite the world being crazy, and it does sometimes come around to bite her in the backside.
In conclusion, Ema Skye is a young, bright and budding, obsessive detective wannabe. She's prone to sticking her nose into things, and she's got some serious ambition. It doesn't necessarily work out like she hopes in the end, but she's still a hard worker.
◎ Powers/Abilities:
Ema is a completely mundane human in nearly every sense of the word, but she does have some unusual skills. At 16 she is more than aware of many forms of forensic investigation. She's knowledgeable on more than just the basics, and has a working understanding of the science and techniques behind such things. She knows how to play the pipe organ (badly), and she's rather energetic and quick witted. But for the most part? Ema is just a smart teenager.
◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
-Pink glasses/lab coat with 3 buttons
-A shoulderbag containing Ema's scientific gear and a few gizmos/investigative knicknacks Specifically:
-2 bottles of Luminol testing fluid with sprayer
-Fingerprinting dust
-A fingerprint scanner

-Wallet with family photo
CEREALIA-Specific
◎ Element: Air. Ema is flighty, moving from idea to idea, adapting and learning rather than staying stuck on a single thing thought (aside from science). She has a goal, and wants to achieve it, but she's flexible in how it's achieved. And drawing on her later portrayals as an adult: when she's forced into a role or confined she grows stale and stagnant, and that upsets her. Plus her name is Skye?
◎ Sense: Sight. She's a visual person who relies on what she can see and observe. She even wears those pink glasses to help her see clues in luminol better.
