[ Well, that's unexpected but definitely not in a bad way. He looks surprised, but then a small laugh slips out that's more like a puff of air. ]

Sounds great. I take it you're going to introduce me to something new again?

Well that depends...how do you feel about steak?

[Look, he has to have seen that before. Cows are so good man...]

[ Yeah, seen it on Arthur's plate. ]

[ The pause that follows that is ... long.

Merlin pulls his lower lip between his teeth, bites it as a wince starts to cross his face, then the explanation comes: ]

Oh? Um. Did you get on Mister Edgeworth's bad side?

[ He opens his mouth. Shuts it a second after then gives her a sheepish smile. ]

Something like that. He really does not like having fun.

What...did you do? [Because oh boy...]

I might have used magic on his dog's ball and made it run around everywhere in the gardens.

[ ...It's actually funny though, tbh. ]

[Ema snorts out a little giggle.]

[ He can't help but grin in response. ]

Well! Mister Edgeworth is really serious! he's a friend of mine, from home.

You're from the same place? [ Though maybe it makes some sense (does it? He really knows very little about Edgeworth, only a bit more about her). ]

How long have you known each other?

Oh! Yes! I've known him about...seven or eight years now? Since I was really little. he used to work with my big sister Lana.

[And he's always been someone she idolizes.]

[ He's a little surprised about that, but maybe it explains some things. ]

I didn't know you had a sister. [ There's something fond to it when he says that though. Family is important. ] See. This is what we should probably be talking about to get to know each other better.

Oh! Yeah! It really is. I have an older sister, her name's Lana, and she was Mister Edgeworth's boss for a couple of years. She was a detective and the Chief Prosecutor. The lawyer that tries to make it so bad people go to jail. She was really brilliant at it, too.

What's it like? Having a sister? [ He leans to look at her then, holding the soda steady so he doesn't tip it over. It's rather fascinating to learn about how different everyone's lives are now. There's words there though that he's getting more familiar with. Edgeworth, Ema... and he can't help it, his curiosity gets the better of him. "Lawyer" is the biggest reason for this. ]

Is Athena from the same world as you then? I heard that term from her too. "Lawyer".

[ A very odd thing when he's from a place with very little chance of a fair trial, honestly. ]

But either way, you sound really proud of her. Your sister. You must be close?

Oh. Um. It's really nice. She looks after me, since our parents died when we were younger. I don't know what I'd do without her. Well...without her or Mister Edgeworth and Mister Wright. Lana and I are super close. She's basically my best friend and my sister, and my parent too.

[She brightens at the mention of Athena, nodding animatedly.]

Yep! She's from my world. The same with Mister Wright, Mister Klavier, Mister Justice...though he's gone now, Trucy, and Iris. Oh! And Mister Butz. But I don't know him. Mister Wright just told me.

That sounds like a really special bond. [ He listens to the list she gives him, trying to work out if he's met any of the others. Ironically, he does know Iris. He's met her twice now... he just doesn't know her name.

How. Why. No one knows. ]

I don't think I've met the others, but I'll remember their names for the future. [ He taps the side of his head. ] It must be nice having others you know here. Just for support.

It's helpful, yes. I mean, I've never lived alone before, so having Mister Edgeworth and Mister Wright just around the corner is great.

[She frowns a little bit.]
